The Dutch Act on Financial Supervision (Wet op het financieel toezicht (Wft)) has become operative on 1 January 2007, replacing eight supervision Acts. In doing so, the Act includes practically all supervisory rules and conditions that apply to the financial markets. The main objective of this new act was the replacement of sectoral supervision by a functional model by making the rules and regulations as consistent as possible across the various institutions under supervision, regardless of their character.
